On Heightened Alert

Cancer is your shadow if it ever comes your way
You're never truly alone, after diagnosis day.
You notice little things you never noticed before
Because Cancer brings you closer to being at heavens door.

Any unusual appearance of something on your skin
You immediately call your Doctor, whose become your best friend.
You notice imperfections that you never knew you had
And you jump to conclusions that all of it is bad.

You know you shouldn't worry, it's not the thing to do
Cause worry causes Stress and that's so bad for you.
But you know you're all alone with what you call Big C
And you keep asking the big question, "what will it do to me."

Don't jump to conclusions and don't let it get you down
Be strong and positive and let your cross become your crown.

A New Beginning

One day unexpectedly out of the blue
I felt more fear than I ever before knew
It came upon the diagnosis of a medical test
When my doctor said Cancer, you can imagine the rest.

I knew God needed my attention
In a very special way
And perhaps that's why he sent this disease
To tell me what he had to say.

I looked to the clouds for answers
To see if he was there
But in my heart I knew
He needed me in prayer.

After two successful surgeries
And declining further care
I turned my mind, body and spirit to God
And knew I'd find him there.

I asked St. Peregrine and St. Jude
To give me the power to see
The healing miracles that can happen
When you surrender and let it be.

I promised to help others that are sick and in need
And to always give witness and follow God's lead
For within the mystery of why I carry this cross
Lies his mission for me, to help souls that are lost.

So whatever time now I have left to live
I promise to my God that I'll forever give
Give of myself, mind-body and soul
For his greatness and glory, his heart will I hold.

I live now in Love and surrender all fear
For God is ever present, ever loving and near
I accept this new beginning and whatever it brings my way
And thank him every night for another beautiful day.
