13th September 2007

Last night I went to my monthly women's book club and the question came up about what we thought was the definition of prosperity. We all agreed that prosperity had to do with the quality of the relationship of family and friends. We talked a lot about the Erma Bombeck poem "If I had to live my life over". We talked about using our best things and not keeping them stored up and locked away. We talked about the fact that our careers were not as important to us as time spent with family. Recently I lost a very dear friend to ovarian cancer. As you know this is hard to diagnose and as destiny would have it she found out too late and her battle did not last nearly long enough. But my friend always preached family and balance in the life of a working woman. She taught me the importance and the value of friendship. She left a legacy of 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

I checked the newspaper on the one month anniversary of her passing. I wanted to see what her Horoscope said the day that she left us. This is my tribute to a wonderful person and friend.

Daily Horoscope

I can no longer hear
my eardrums burn from radioactive
screaming
a steady hum

Today's Horoscope
I can no longer taste
my tongue numb from cold metallic syrup
dripping
an endless count of one

Today you search for feelings of security
My vision blurred
trying to steady the picture on the wall
swimming
under a crashing wave of nausea

that allow you to retain your dignity
But I still breathe
the faith that children know
hoping
for one more game of make-believe

in the process.
