13th October 2003 Having had some discomfort with the minor operation of my 'dog ear'
removed, it took me ages to realise that I could go back to my little soft prosthesis
in a vest top. Sometimes we forget to make life easier for ourselves.
This came from two friends and while it is amusing, the message is still clear.
Finishing things always makes you feel good.
The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you've started.
I looked around to see all the things I started and hadn't finished.
So last night I finished one bottle of white wine, a bottle of red
wine, a bottle of Drambuie, my Prozac, a large box of chocolate and a
quart of beer. You have no idea how good I feel.

13th September 2003 Daniel North has sent me a wonderful poem
of his. I find it very powerful. At first I thought it sad, but no longer.
Daniel's addition made me sort my poems page soI have moved
Autobiography in Five Short Chapters to poems. Thank you again for sharing this Marion.

A lily lasts a day
A rose a week
But a mother's love stays
with us always.

Dreadful joke. What's on the very top of a witch's
gingerbread house? The roof!!!

8th December 2002
I have had a mastectomy, left breast, and must thank family, friends
and hospital staff for helping me to face this experience without fear.
I can't play my hand drum but hope to soon!

10 November 2002
I have been for a recall screening and shall be going for further tests
and a visit to my a consultant. While I am apprehensive I know that my
care will be in good hands and that all friends and my family will be of
great support. The sunflowers from Irene are
an example of such caring.

Here is a quote from a fellow Open University student. If you see
someone without a smile give them one of yours. Thank you Steven Porter.

8 July 2002 Ian, a fellow Open University student,
has downloaded one of my path photographs for his desktop.
I am very delighted and love the words he used when he wrote to me.
"I adore that point in the year where the leaves have just reached
the right point and the sun casts a verdant green glow on all under the trees.
I look forward to that moment each year. It means the start of new life
all around has truly established itself and soon will flourish."

19 April 2002 Rita wrote and asked me about the
daffodils in my home town. I have taken photographs a bit late
but here they are Rita.

22nd March 2002
My friend Heather sent me some writing, If
I had my Life to live Over, by Erma Bombeck, American columnist,
humourist and author, who lost her fight with cancer in 1996

23rd February 2002
Jess Paston wrote to me admiring my walk photographs. Thank you Jess
for giving me a nudge. I have now put up two more. Snowdrops which are,
to me, the loveliest of flowers, and lone tree in winter.

16th January 2002
Our friend Gloria's mother died late last year. As Gloria has sent
a lovely piece, I have put this into
experiences.
|
4th December 2001
I recently met Janet Paisley at a wee literary 'do'. In Reading
the Bones, there are a number of poems about her mother, who, sadly,
died from cancer, not too long ago. Janet is very happy to have a poem
on this site but I have had trouble making a choice and decided on
Mountain Thyme
as it is so very beautiful.

25th November 2001
My daughter found these lovely lines by D. H Lawrence, called
Self PityI never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.
|
3rd November 2001 Recently, Gloria,
(see below) sent me a present all the way from the
USA, of Peace, Love and Healing, by Bernie S. Siegel, M.D.. Near the end
I found one of my favourite poems by Jenny Joseph, called
Warning
and I have put a copy in my 'favourites' page.
|
31st October 2001 I am very happy that Marc Truyens,
a fellow Open University student, pointed me to a wonderful poem
called Let It Be Forgotten,
by Sara Teasdale.
|
26th October 2001
I received a card recently from a young friend of my daughter.
He was so glad to hear of my happy check up news.
Michael's Mum died from cancer not too long ago and this
was so wonderful of him. Makes life great does this kind of thing. Thank
you Michael.

17th October 2001
My friend Nancy sent me a lot of 'about women ' sayings and I have chosen
my favourites to share.
WOMEN
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
We got off the Titanic first!

These are some thoughts kept by
a friend on a wee piece of paper. Thank you Gloria, for sharing them with
us.
Symptoms of Inner Peace
- An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.
- Loss of interest in judging other people.
- Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.
- Frequent attacks of smiling through the eyes of the heart.
- Loss of ability to worry.

| Kathy writes that she nursed her mum through cancer and that she has
exactly the same experience as myself of treatment within the
National Health Service. This was wonderful, with friendship and care.
The experience made her life so much richer.
